WHAT IS A SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX?
A safety deposit box is an individual container stored within a secure safe or vault which is only accessible by the key holder. It can be used to store possessions that an individual or business may not wish to store at home or at their place of business. The client agrees to pay a monthly or annual fee for using the box, which can only be accessed and opened by successfully navigating a number of security levels including bio-metric security.
WHY DO I NEED A SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX?
If you are concerned about the security of your valuables at home or in the workplace, you should consider renting a safety deposit box. Also, your home contents insurance premiums should be reduced using a safety deposit box.
HOW DO YOU ENSURE THAT MY VALUABLES ARE SECURE?
Union Vault applies multiple layers of security and physical barriers using state of the art certified vaults and international security systems making our facility equal to the best in the world. We have 24/7 On and Off-site cameras monitored by a third-party security company. 24/7 Guarding and access control into the facility.
WHAT MAKES YOUR SERVICE SPECIAL?
All our management and staff adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity and confidentiality. To ensure compliance all personnel undergo regular polygraph tests.
DO I HAVE PRIVACY INSIDE THE SECURITY VAULT?
We offer private viewing rooms inside the vault, giving our customers ultimate privacy when viewing their valuables.
ARE MY ITEMS INSURED WHILST STORED?
Yes, with every box rental your contents will automatically be insured for One Million Rand, Should you require more cover we will be happy to provide you with a quote on any additional amount of up to Five Million Rand per Safety Deposit Box.

WHO CAN ACCESS MY SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX?
There is no limit to the amount of times you may access your box and there is no need to make an appointment. Our business operating hours apply.
WHAT DO I NEED TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT?
We will require you to prove your identity using an acceptable form of photographic identification (a valid ID or drivers’ licence) and a proof of address (a utility bill or other approved document less than 3 months old).
DO YOU KEEP A COPY OF MY KEY?
No. You will be issued with the key unique to your box. Each box is opened using a dual-lock system. The “customer” key and one held by “us”. Each box requires both keys to gain access, neither us nor the customer can open the box alone.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY KEY?
You will be issued with a key at the time of rental. If you lose it, you should inform us immediately. You will then need to make an appointment with us, to ensure you are present when a locksmith drills open your box. You will be responsible for the cost of the locksmith and the subsequent repairs that are required.
ARE THERE ANY PROHIBITED ITEMS THAT CANNOT BE KEPT IN A SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX?
Yes. You are not permitted to store items such as: Noxious materials, explosives, ammunition, gas canisters, liquids or perishable items. See our terms and conditions for a comprehensive list of additional prohibited items.
IS ACCESS TO MY SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF OPERATING HOURS?
For your security, the vaults are fitted with time locks and only accessible within our business operating hours.
IS PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE VAULT?
Yes – we have secure free parking spaces available directly outside.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I PASS AWAY?
All customers must provide next of kin and other contact details on the application. The normal estate laws will apply. Your executor would deal with your safety deposit contents as they would with your other assets.
